S. Korea extends $50m assistance to ANP

KABUL): The South Korean government on Saturday announced $50 million in assistance to Afghan National Police (ANP).

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to the effect was signed in Kabul by representatives of the two countries.

Lt. Gen Mohammad Haidar Basir, the deputy head of police deployment, South Korean Ambassador Cha Young–Cheol and a representative of the UN Office for Project Services inked the accord.

Gen Haidar said the money would be spent on capacity building and professional training of police personnel. He thanked the Korean government for assistance over the last decade.

Cha Young–Cheol said it was the second time that his country extending $50 million in assistance to ANP. He also reminded of the 30 policewomen sent to South Korea for training.

Currently, the ANP strength stands at 160,000, including 2,500 women.

Earlier, South Korea had granted $43 million for development projects, including capacity building and vocational training for women and $9 million for food security through World.
