KABUL has defeated Malaysia in their Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-19 Asia Cup match in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, an official said.

The national team won the toss and put the opposition in, a decision that apparently paid off, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) spokesman said.

Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News the Malaysians were skittled out for 40 in the 23rd over, with Syed Sherzad picking four wickets and Abdullah Adil three.

At the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Afghanistan raced to the target in the fourth over without losing any wicket, inflicting a big loss on the rivals.

Of the three matches they have played so far, Afghanistan have won two and lost one. They were beaten by Bangladesh by 16 runs earlier in the week..

In the opener, Ziaur Rahman’s aggressive bowling spell and a magnificent 47-run knock by Shahidullah saw the national side cruising to victory over Sri Lanka in the 47th over.
