ASADABAD (Pajhwok): One civilian was killed and two others injured on Friday when a roadside bomb exploded in eastern Kunar province, police said.
Maj. Gen. Abdul Habib Syedkhel, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion took place in Barkali area of Marawara district at around 9:00am.
He said Taliban Insurgents had planted mines in the area, adding the civilians were crossing the road when they stepped on a mine that went off, killing one and injuring two others.
The injured — a woman and a child — have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, he said, accusing the Taliban of causing the casualties.
However, the Taliban have not yet commented on the incident, the latest in one of the series taking place in the province, which borders Pakistan’s Bajaur tribal region.
