ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Rich tributes were paid to prominent writer and religious figure Maulvi Abdul Khaliq Ikhlas on his 112th birth anniversary in eastern Kunar province on Monday.
A day-long seminar was organised by Zalmai Hewadmal, advisor to the president on cultural affairs, to remember the intellectual. Governor Shujaul Mulk Jalala, senior officials and scholars, including Ustad Habibullah Rafi, were in attendance.
The governor read out President Hamid Karzai’s message regarding the contribution of Maulvi Ikhlas. The president suggested similar seminars be held to remember the services of national figures.
Speakers highlighted the services of Ikhlas in various fields of life and paid rich tribute to him. His contribution to the promotion of literature would long be remembered, they said.
A representative of Kunar province in the Senate in 1938, Ikhlas died in 1988 in Swabi, a district of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
