PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Two persons, including a month-old child, were killed and seven others sustained grievous injuries when a liquefied gas cylinder exploded inside a house in the capital of northern Baghlan province on Thursday, police said.
Police spokesman Ahmad Javed Basharat told Pajhwok the incident occurred in the afternoon around 3pm in Karti Sulah area of Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital. He said the injured included women and children, all from the same family.
A surviving member of the family, Dr. Samiullah, told Pajhwok the gas cylinder had frozen and it exploded when a member of the family put it near the stove.
He said the dead included a month-old baby and a guest of the family. Two women, as many men and three children were injured in the blast, Samiullah said.
A doctor at the provincial civil hospital, Mohammad Nabi Akbari, confirmed receiving eight injured people, including women and children. A child and a woman were in critical condition, the doctor said.
