KABUL, BAGHLAN (Pajhwok): An abducted child was recovered in Kabul and a municipality official arrested on corruption charges in Pul-i-Khumri, the capital of northern Baghlan province, officials said Wednesday.
Hashmatullah Stanikzai, the Kabul police spokesman, identified the rescued child as Baktash, who had been kidnapped from the Macro Ryan area of the capital on Feb. 9.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News the kidnappers had demanded $100,000 for the the child’s release. But police recovered him and arrested five individuals, including a woman.
Separately, an official of the Pul-i-Khumri Municipality was detained on corruption charges, said Brig. Gen. Amin Amarkhel, the provincial police chief,
The man was arrested red-handed while receiving 10,000 afghanis in bribe from an individual in return for illegal space for a container in the city bazaar.
