TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Thousands of protestors on Saturday took to the street in northern Takhar province, demanding the immediate removal of the governor and his deputy.
Angry demonstrators accused Governor Abdul Latif Ibrahimi and Deputy Governor Mohammad Farid Zaki of failing to deliver good governance and resolve local problems.
Malik Tatar, who led the protestors, slammed the governor and his deputy as inefficient and unable to run provincial affairs.
Earlier, elders of Khwaja Bahauddin, Darqad and Yangi Qalal districts met the president and the minister of interior on implementation of reconstruction projects.
But Tatar alleged guards of the governor did not allow them to meet the delegation sent to Taloqan by the president to address the problems being faced by residents of the districts.
But Sunnatullah Timor, the governor’s spokesman, said two groups from Khwaja Bahauddin district had met the delegation in the presence of the governor and provincial council members. But two other rival groups did not meet the team.
