GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The stage is set for a grand ceremony marking Ghazni City as the capital of Islamic Civilisation, authorities said on Saturday.
Ghazni City, the provincial capital, was selected as capital of the Islamic Civilisation by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) at a conference in Tripoli in 2007.
Stringent security measures have been put in place for Saturday’s ceremony, according to the governor’s spokesman, Shafiq Nang. Besides Afghan and foreign dignitaries, up to 7,000 residents are expected to attend the event.
Only people with invitation cards would be allowed to attend the ceremony, he said, adding that bicycle and motorbike ride had been banned for a day in the provincial capital.
On Thursday, Governor Musa Khan Akbarzada said the ongoing fighting in Afghanistan. He urged the fighters to realise the stark reality.
He asked the insurgents to view the celebration, set for Feb. 23, as a matter of pride for them, shun violence on that day and let residents participate in the event.
