SHIBERGHAN/TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead a woman and her daughter in Shiberghan, the capital of northern Jawzjan province, while another female was killed in the Yangi Qala district of Takhar province, officials said on Sunday.
Col. Abdul Manan Raufi, the Jawzjan provincial police chief, said soon after getting information regarding the women’s killing in Shiberghan, police detained the victim’s husband.
Another woman was killed by her son-in-law in Yangi Qala.
Director of Shiberghan Hospital Dr. Mohammad Haroon Arif Elbegi said the postmortem report showed the woman and her daughter were tortured.
Maghfirat Samimi, the Jawzjan human rights officer, expressed grave concern over the killing of the women, saying they had recorded a surge in violence against women in the province.
