ISLAMABAD (Pajhwok): Senior Pakistani and UN diplomats on Monday agreed on the need for cordial Kabul-Islamabad relations to promote stability in the region.
At a meeting with UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative Jan Kubis in Islamabad, Foreign Policy Advisor reaffirmed Pakistan.
The Foreign Office said Aziz hoped for Afghanistan’s security, political and economic stability following the withdrawal of NATO troops at the end of 2014.
In line with Kabul’s request, Islamabad would continue to help promote the reconciliation process in Afghanistan, a statement from the foreign ministry quoted the advisor as saying.
He said assistance from the UN and the international community was central to Afghanistan’s development and reconstruction. He sought global help for the dignified return of Afghan refugees from Pakistan to their homeland.
For his part, Kubis appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for Afghanistan’s stability and progress. He briefed Aziz on the projects being executed in the war-torn country under the aegis of UNAMA.
