LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Two children were killed and three others sustained injuries when a rocket allegedly fired by Taliban insurgents hit a house in southern Helmand province, an official said on Thursday.
The incident took place in Sarchina area of Sangin district late on Wednesday, police spokesman Col. Abdul Ahad Chopan told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He claimed the Taliban-fired rocket was aimed at an Afghan forces’ check-post, but it missed the target and hit a civilian house, killing two children and injuring three others. The children were aged between seven and five years.
Chopan also said seven insurgents were killed during a cleanup operation in Mirmandab area of Greshk district a day earlier.
The governor’s spokesman, Omar Zwak, said the operation was aimed at improving security for the upcoming presidential and provincial council polls and eradicating poppy crops.
