KABUL (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday condemned a suicide attack that killed 16 people and injured 42 others in northern Faryab province.
The early morning auto-rickshaw blast ripped through a crowd of people in front of the Energy and Water Department at the Misara Square in Maimana, the provincial capital.
President Karzai strongly condemned the incident in a statement from the Presidential Palace and expressed his deep condolences to the victims’ families.
“Carrying out suicide attacks in areas where hundreds of civilians, including women and children, commute are inhuman and un-Islamic acts,” the statement quoted the president as saying.
He said the perpetrators of such incidents were pawns used by their foreign masters in reaching their nefarious designs of killing innocent Afghan Muslim civilians.
Immediately after the blast, Karzai contacted the Faryab public health department and directed it to provide urgent health services to the injured.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) also condemned the suicide attack in a statement, which said the wounded were being treated at local hospitals.
