KABUL Ali Rahmanov on Wednesday witnessed the signing of four cooperation agreements between the two countries.
In a joint statement, the two sides said the pacts aimed to encourage cooperation in the areas of investment, customs, arts, culture and media. Foreign Minister Zarar Ahmad Usmani and his Tajik counterpart Aslov Sirodjidin Muhridinovich inked one of the accords.
A second agreement was signed between Minister of Information and Culture Sayed Makhdoom Raheen and his Tajik counterpart Shamsiddin Haroon.
Ahmad Zarin Anzor, head of the Radio-Television Authority, and Asadullah Rahman of Tajikistan signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the media sector.
President Hamid Karzai told reporters at the signing ceremony the agreements were reflective of growing relations between the two countries. He said economic, security, cultural, political and trade links were discussed with the Tajik president.
He added Afghanistan and Tajikistan had been enjoying good relations that had considerably improved over the past 12 years. Detail of the agreement would be issued later, the president’s office said.
Imam Ali Romanov viewed the agreements as an important step toward strengthening relations between the neighbours. He said Tajikistan was fully cooperating with Afghanistan in restoration of peace because a peaceful Afghanistan was in the interest of the region.
He was in Afghanistan to participate in of Nawroz celebration and identify areas of cooperation and friendship between the two countries. The official celebration is scheduled to be held tomorrow in Kabul.
Presidents of Iran, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, India, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Armenia, the UN secretary- general and other foreign dignitaries are expected to attend the function.
