Mohammadi visited the IEC office in the Darulaman area on Tuesday to obtain cards for his election observers when the attack took place, IEC officials said.
The attack began when one suicide attacker blew up his car outside the IEC office and paved the way for other gunmen to enter the compound near the house of presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.
Ahmadzai was not present at his residence at the time and was campaigning outside Kabul. The leading candidate was not the target as explained by the Taliban who said the target was the election office.
