KABUL President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday affirmed his country’s commitment to peace and stability in the region.
Addressing a Persian New Year function at the Presidential Palace here, Hussain said: “I’m so glad participating in the Nawroz festival. Excellent arrangements have been made.”
He called Nawroz meant good mutual relations, giving pleasure to the countries having a common culture. “Celebrating the New Year together promotes solidarity among regional countries…”
With strong historical and cultural commonalities, the regional countries had common aspirations for peace and prosperity, Hussain added. “We can achieve peace if we jointly address current challenges.”
He said: “Pakistan remained committed to having good neighbourly relations with all countries. We are supportive of all peace efforts.”
Accompanied by Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid, he was received by senior Afghan officials at the Kabul airport.
Pakistan Ambassador Syed Abrar Hussain was also present. This is Hussain’s first visit to Afghanistan since taking office.
Leaders from the region, particularly from Central and West Asia, have been invited by the Afghan government to attend the festival.
Hussain will meet other leaders on bilateral matters and regional issues of peace, security, trade and economic cooperation.
The president’s visit is part of the efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with Afghanistan in all fields, including durable peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
