PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Narcotics weighing 245 kilograms were seized in northern Baghlan province, officials said on Wednesday, when 160 kilograms of explosives were defused in central Daikundi.
Baghlan police spokesman Javed Basharat told Pajhwok Afghan News police confiscated the drugs destined for Kabul in Andrab area from a Mazda truck and arrested its driver.
Counternarcotics Director Nizamuddin Nizam said the narcotics seized were later put on fire.
In Daikundi, police detected and defused160 kilograms of explosives, police chief, Brig Gen. Jumma Guldi Yardam said, adding the explosives were aimed to disrupt the election process. No arrests could be made in connection with the seizure, he said.
Residents of Kujran district say they are concerned about security threats posed by militant to the election process.
Resident Syed Mubin said the presence of militants in some areas of the district was a matter of great concern.
However, he believed people would not let militants sabotage the elections and they would throng polling stations on the voting day (Saturday).
