MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The governor claimed on Saturday at least 21 militants were killed on the Election Day in northern Faryab province, saying the enemies had failed to disrupt the historic vote.
Mohammadullah Batash told a news conference in Maimana, the provincial capital, the elections in Faryab had gone successfully and without any major untoward incident.
“The Taliban launched some attacks to disrupt the process, but Afghan forces frustrated their designs,” he said, adding 21 rebels were killed and another 15 were wounded during clashes.
Two security officials were also lost to the clash that left another two security men wounded, Batash said.
About a shortage of ballot papers, the governor admitted there had been the problem at some polling sites, but it was resolved after the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) was informed about it.
