CHAGHCHARAN (Pajhwok): Heavy snowfall has blocked roads, creating problems in transporting ballot boxes to the capital of western Ghor province, officials said on Sunday.
An Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) official said roads between districts and Chaghcharan, the provincial capital, had been clogged by snowfall.
Hamidullah Dadfar told Pajhwok Afghan News up to 50 centimetres of snow had been recorded in Lal Sarjangal, Dolina and Shahrak districts. The latest snowfall in Ghor is a record in the past decade.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) deputy chief said road blockades had created hurdles to their work. He voiced concern about transportation of ballot boxes, but hoped the Afghan Air Force would help panel.
Governor Syed Anwar Rahmati, said efforts were underway to clear the roads for transportation of ballot boxes from districts to the capital.
