KABUL (Pajhwok): The spy service claimed on Thursday security forces had detained 262 would-be suicide bombers over the past 40 days and that foreign militant groups and intelligence agencies had been attempting to sabotage the elections last Saturday, but failed.
National Directorate of Security spokesman Lutfullah Mashal told reporters in Kabul the suicide bombers were arrested in 23 of the country’s 34 provinces along with 65 explosives-laden vehicles.
He recalled 900 rockets were fired in a single day during the 2009 elections, when around 140,000 troops from more than 40 countries existed in Afghanistan. But this time, he said there had been no major incident of violence and even no attack in Kabul.
