MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Two policemen and 13 militants were killed and nine others, including civilians, have been wounded in a fierce clash for control of the Shakh Bazaar area in Qaisar district of northwestern Faryab province, an official said Sunday.
Security forces flushed out militants and got control of the Zafran, Tuiama, Arkali, Ziarat Taga and Ghora areas, administrative chief of the district, Abdul Jamil Sadiqqi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Two policemen died and as many Afghan Local Police (ALP) officials and nine civilians suffered injuries during the gun battle, he added.
Different militants’ groups from neighboring Badghis and Ghor provinces were battling security forces for control of Shak Bazaar but security forces repulsed insurgents’ attack.
But Taliban Spokesman Qari Mohammad Yousuf said Afghan security forces were pushed back in the fight for Qaisar district.
He claimed killing five security personnel, an Afghan National Army (ANA) commander and a policeman.
An armored vehicle of the security forces had been destroyed during the clash, he added.
Earlier, the Shakh Bazaar locality was fallen into the hands of insurgents.
