GHAZNI (Pajhwok): Eight rebels, including two Pakistanis were killed, five others injured and six arrested in the Ander district of southern Ghazni province, an official said on Thursday.
Armed rebels suffered heavy casualties following a search operation in Chahiltan area of the district on Wednesday night, the 203 Thunder Military Corp’s spokesman, Nazifullah Sultani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
A militant commander was also among those killed, he said. Afghan security forces remained unhurt during the operation, he added.
The administrative head of Ander, Muhammad Qasim Desiwal, said the offensive was conducted by the joint forces late last night in which 13 insurgents had been killed or wounded and six detained.
But Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said they came under ambush by the Afghan security forces after an attack on a check post of local police in Ander.
He added a number of security personnel had been killed and four fighters injured in the clash.
