GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Polish troops on Sunday handed over the security responsibility to their Afghan counterparts after wrapping up mission in southern Ghazni province.
A special ceremony marked the security transition at Forward Operating Base, where the provincial governor and other senior officials were present.
With the ceremony ongoing, the Taliban fired a rocket into Ghazni City, but there were no casualties.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Musa Akbarzada said the Taliban claimed their fight was against the presence of foreign forces, but they were out to disrupt their exit.
“The Taliban should realise now that others benefit from their insurgency. They are only pawns,” the governor said.
He praised Polish troops for their sacrifices and role in maintaining and strengthening security in Ghazni and cooperation with local authorities.
He, however, said: “Foreign troops should hand over their military gears to Afghan forces before leaving Afghanistan.”
Speaking on behalf of Poland troops, Gen. Mark said Polish troops had been training and assisting Afghan forces and maintaining security in Ghazni.
