TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The governor on Monday said a number of projects in central Uruzgan province were on the brink of collapse because poor quality materials had been used in their execution.

Amanullah Taimori said this while laying the foundation stone of a central mosque in Tirinkot, the provincial capital. He said construction work on the mosque would be completed within six months.

He said the mosque building would cost 3 million afghanis and would have the capacity of accommodating 500 worshippers. A committee has been formed to oversee different projects, including the mosque, during their implementation in order to ensure work and material quality.

“Unfortunately, most of the projects have either collapsed or about to collapse because the contractors had used substandard materials,” he added.

Maulvi and Auqaf director, said his department had provided fund for the mosque building.
