MAIMANA/SHEBRGHAN (Pajhwok): At least 10 militants and a civilian have been killed in separate security incidents in northern Jawzjan and Faryab provinces, officials said on Thursday.
Seven rebels were killed and four others including a Taliban-designated district chief wounded during an operation in the Qaisar district of Faryab in the past 24 hours.
The 209th Shahin Military Corps spokesman, Maj. Mohammad Reza Reza, told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation was conducted to drive Taliban commanders from Matoi Yak, Matoi Dow and Asakzai areas.
But a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claimed inflecting casualties on 10 Afghan security personnel and capture of several areas.
Separately, three militants were shot dead by Afghan Local Police (ALP) members on the Shiberghan-Qush Tepa highway in Jawzjan.
Provincial police chief, Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani, confirmed the killing of three fighters and said another three rebels and a policeman were wounded in the clash.
On the other hand, Taliban claimed inflecting casualties on security forces and killing ALP commander Shah Jahani in Mardan district.
Jawzjani confirmed the death of the death Shah Jahan, but he said the victim was a civilian.
