KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) on Wednesday announced it would build 100 homes for the Argo landslide survivors in northeastern Badakhshan province.
The mudslide hit the village in the Aab Barik area of Argo district after days of heavy rains. Up to 300 houses in the far-flung area were flattened as a result of the landslide and over 2,000 people killed.
President of ARCS Fatima Gilani said hers was the first organisation to provide aid to the victims. She added ARCS volunteers were collecting aid in different parts of the country for dispatch to Badakhshan.
The ARCS plans to distribute cash generated from internal and external sauces to the victims of the natural calamity. She said $175,000 had been promised by businessmen from the United Arab Emirates and Chinese Red Cross in assistance.
