10 militants dead in Kunduz incidents

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Ten militants were killed and six others wounded in separate incidents in northern Kunduz province on Saturday, an official said.

Four fighters killed and two policemen wounded during an ongoing offensive in Chahar Dara district, a spokesman for the Afghan National Army’s 209^th Shaheen Military Corps said.

Maj. Ghulam Hazrat Karimi told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation was launched yesterday and would continue for another five days until militant sanctuaries were eliminated.

Police spokesman Col. Syed Sarwar Hussaini said five villages -- Nahar, Sharwan, Daftani and Tepa Sarfaraz -- had been cleared of fighters.

Ghulam Nabi, a resident of Daftani village, a fire exchange was still going on between Taliban and security forces.

Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed 20 security personnel had been and 12 others wounded during clashes. Two Taliban were also killed and five other wounded, he said.

Meanwhile, four guerrillas including notorious commander Rahman were killed and six others wounded in the Kolabi village of Chahar Dara district, Hussaini said.

Separately, two militants were killed after they stormed a police check-post in Mamakhel area. So far, Taliban have not spoken on the incidents.
