ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Pakistani forces once again fired at least 30 “long-range rockets” into Shegal and Dangam districts of eastern Kunar province, causing financial losses to residents, the police chief said on Saturday.
Brig. Gen. Abdul Habib Syedkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News the shelling began last night and continued until Saturday noon, with 24 rockets hitting Tabila and Khara areas of Dangam and the remaining six rockets landing in Shegal.
He said no loss of life had been reported so far as a result of the unprovoked shelling that damaged civilian homes and forests.
The police chief said the latest shelling had created panic among people of the border region and many had left homes for safety.
Syedkhel said they had lodged a protest with Pakistani officials over the periodic shelling during the latest trilateral meeting among Afghan, ISAF and Pakistani officials in Torkham.
However, he said there had been no positive response from the Pakistani side.
