KUNDUZ CITY/SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Ten militants were killed during a clash with security forces in the Dashti Archi district of northern Kunduz province, an official said on Sunday.

The clash broke out after a group of armed insurgents stormed police posts in the district’s Char Saraka-i-Haji Naeem and Gadamdar areas last night, the provincial police spokesman said.

Col. Syed Sarwar Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News the police suffered no causalities during the gunbattle that left 10 attackers dead, including two commanders identified as Qari Hassan and Hussain.

A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid rejected the fighters had suffered any fatalities, saying six Afghan Local Police (ALP) members were killed in the overnight assault.

Elsewhere, a man allegedly involved in killing a police officer and taking away his police van has been arrested in northern Jawzjan province, the criminal branch police said.

Police official Cap. Abdul Latif told Pajhwok Afghan News Amanullah was arrested from Sairabad village on the outskirts of Shiberghan, the provincial capital.

He claimed documents recovered from the detainee’s possession showed he had links with the Taliban.
