FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Two villages and a fruit orchard were washed away by flash floods in the Khwahan district of northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Tuesday.
Ninety percent of agriculture Hasamuddin Niazi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said 100 domestic animals also perished. But the exact extent of destroyed farmlands and forests was yet to be ascertained. The district centre is also under threat.
Provincial development council chief, Abdul Wahid Tayyebi, said shopkeepers had to take home their goods daily due to the flood threat.
He said no government department had come to the area to assess the losses. Khwahan district is located 150 kilometres north of Faizabad on the border with Tajikistan.
Four people were killed and eight others went missing as floods hit the Shahr-i-Bozurg district of the province a week earlier.
