NEW DELHI (Pajhwok): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who took oath a day ago in the presence of SAARC leaders in New Delhi, met Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday.
President Karzai flew into New Delhi on Monday to take part in the swearing-in ceremony for Modi, whose Baharatya Janata Party won a landslide in recent parliamentary elections. Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was also present.
The first foreign dignitary to meet the new prime minister at the Hyderabad House here, Karzai reportedly discussed with Modi Friday’s attack on the Indian consulate in Herat province.
Earlier, Karzai had told Indian media that the Kashmir-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba was behind the attack on the Indian diplomatic mission.
“According to information given to us by a Western intelligence agency, the perpetrators of the Herat attack belonged to the LeT. This was mentioned in writing in the report shared with us,” he told an Indian TV channel.
