PUL-I-ALAM/KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Seventeen militants have been killed during operations and a NATO airstrike in central Logar and southern Kandahar provinces, officials said on Saturday.

Logar police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai told Pajhwok Afghan News that nearly a dozen militants were killed during two separate operations in Pul-i-Alam’s Alozai area and Mohammad Agha district’s Zarghon area.

Another six militants and two policemen were injured during the operations, he said, adding the dead insurgents included a Taliban Nimat, who he accused of having hand in various incidents of violence.

In Kandahar, a NATO airstrike killed six militants in the Khakrez district on Saturday morning, the governor’s house said in a statement.

The air raid took place during a joint operation by Afghan and foreign troops in the Baghak area.

The statement also said search operations were conducted in other parts of the province, resulting in the seizure of arms and ammunitions belonging to insurgents.
