FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): Two robbers were killed during an overnight police encounter in the Dolina district of western Ghor province, an official said on Sunday.
Crime branch chief Col. Abdul Hadi Chahalghori told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash took place in Band-i-Bain area on Saturday night.
The two robbers had connections with Taliban Abdul Karim, who operates in Shahrak and Dolina districts. Two Kalashnikovs were seized from the thieves, he said.
A resident of Dolina district, Abdur Rauf said their car was stopped by a number of armed robbers in the Band-i-Bain area last week and deprived them of money and cell phones.
He added the same robbers had snatched four motorcycles from locals and beaten one of bike owners after he offered resistance. The bike owner was currently being treated at a hospital for his wounds, the resident said.
Another resident Gul Mohammad said armed robbers often wore masks in order not to be identified. They stopped vehicles and pedestrians and forced them into paying them money, he said.
He also claimed masked robbers were involved in planting roadside bombs on highways.
