KANDAHAR/QALAT/FARAH CIY (Pajhwok): Two Afghan Local Police (ALP) and nine insurgents were killed separate incidents in southwest the country, officials said on Saturday.
Two ALP officials and as many Taliban were killed during gun battle in the Shajoi district of southern Zabul province, district chief Malak Ali Mohammad told Pajhwok Afghan News.
But, militants have claimed killing of two ALP officials in a roadside bombing in the shobar locality of Sahjoi district.
Elsewhere, seven militants were killed during firefight with security forces in the Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, the governor office statement said.
The fighting took place in the Band-i-Taimor locality, the statement said in brief, adding that police also recovered weapons from militants.
Militant have not yet spoken about the incident.
Separately, a prayer leader for the central mosque of western Farah province has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen.
Maulavi Momin was on his way from mosque to home when two masked motorcyclists opened fire, leaving him seriously wounded in Farah city on Friday evening, police spokesman, javid Kargar told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said that Momin 65 was critically injured in the attack but succumbed today morning in Farah civil hospital. The attackers have managed to flee.
