SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The wheat yield in northwestern Jawzjan province has declined by 10,000 tonnes this year due to flash floods, official said on Wednesday.
Agriculture Director Eng. Abdul Rashid told Pajhwok Afghan News wheat was cultivated on more than 93,000 hectares of land, which produced 65,000 tonnes. Last year, the same area yielded 75,000 tonnes.
“Bad weather conditions coupled by flooding and draught affected wheat crop negatively,” the official added. Faizabad, Aqcha, Khwaja Dokoh, Qush Tepa and Darzab districts were hit by floods this year.
A farmer from Darzab district said: “I cultivated 350 kilograms of wheat and that yielded 650 kilograms this year.” Ghulam Sakhi, a shopkeeper, said the price of wheat surged this year due to a shortage of supply.
