3 rebels killed, 6 wounded in Kunduz clash

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Three militants, including a notorious commander, were killed and six others wounded in an overnight clash with security forces in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Wednesday.

The gunbattle erupted when the insurgents attacked a check-post manned by the Afghan Local Police (ALP) in the Daftani village of Dasht-i-Archi district, police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Taliban commander Mulla Abdul Wahid, a resident of northern Takhar province, was killed and an ALP official injured during the clash, he added.

However, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed three policemen and an ALP official were killed and several others wounded.

Earlier, security officials announced ending a clearing operation in Dashti-i-Arch, saying the area had been purged of militants. But residents feared the rebels would stage a comeback if security forces did not establish check-posts in the district.
