Nimroz revenue sees huge boost

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): The revenue of western Nimroz custom has significantly increased during the first half of the ongoing financial year, an official said on Sunday.

Wais Sultani, the customs director, told Pajhwok Afghan News that an increase of one billion afghanis had been recorded during the past six months of the current financial year.

He linked the revenue hike to the introduction of a new banking system, traders’ interest on transporting their goods through the Nimroz port and prevention of tax evasion.

Sultani added 50 percent of imports from Iran through the port included fuel, fertilizers, plaster, cement, iron girder, food items and dairy products while the remaining 50 percent of items like auto parts, electronics and fabrics came from from China.

The revenue of the customs department would further increase if weight bridge was installed at the port, he hoped, saying a construction of a 15 acres parking lot had begun. The project will be completed in the next six months at a cost of $2 million to be paid by the Ministry of Finance.

He went on to say that the construction of two warehouses for traders was also underway and would be completed within one month.

Haji Zahir, a trader who imports goods through the Nimroz port, said that his merchandise was currently kept in the sun and dust, but he hoped his imports would be protected after the two warehouses were built.
