PUL-I-KHMRI/ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen have shot dead five members of a family and a religious scholar in different parts of the country, officials said Thursday.

In northern Baghlan, gunmen barged into a house and shot five members of the family to death, including three women, district chief Noor Mohammad Guzar told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The attackers managed to flee the scene after committing the crime, he said, adding that the killing was the result of family feud.

Elsewhere, unidentified gunmen killed religious scholar in the Khashrud district of southwestern Nimroz province.

District Chief Mohammad Hashim Noorzai told Pajhwok Afghan News two persons riding motorbike sprayed Maulvi Abdul Rahim Fakoor with bullets when he was on his way to home on Wednesday evening.

He blamed militants for the killing of the 50 years old religious scholar who was among top religious figures of the province. Noorzai said the slain person did not have any government job.

Militants have not yet commented on the incident.
