FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): Militants disembarked 18 passengers from two vehicles on the Ghor Highway and gunned down 14 of them in western Ghor province, the police chief said on Friday.
Brig. Gen. Ahmad Fahim Qaim told Pajhwok Afghan News the tragic incident took place in the Badgah area of Firozkoh, the provincial capital.
Dressed in Afghan National Army (ANA) uniform, the insurgents got the passengers off the vehicles, divided them into two groups and then shot them dead.
Three women were among those killed, he said, adding four people were spared. Most of the slain were labourers heading to Kabul from Ghor. Police had started investigations into the incident.
Gul Agha, who was lucky enough to survive, said: “We were travelling in two passenger coaches. The militants stopped our vehicles on the main road and started searching us. Within no time, the rebels opened fire on us. I luckily survived the gunfire.”
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
