In a statement, the group said the people and civil society groups were concerned about the success of the audit process and the delays could potentially diminish the public confidence in elections and pave the ground for continuation of political crisis in the country.
The EWA welcomed finalization of the procedure for invalidation of suspicious votes as a step toward towards enhancing transparency in the process and called on the IEC and electoral teams to pave the way for effective and efficient implementation of the procedure.
EWA also stressed significant role the IEC could play in managing the process especially in effective implementation of the procedure for invalidation of suspicious votes.
It called on the IEC to modify the current audit mechanism for betterment of the process given the lessons learned from the first round.
EWA viewed thoroughly fulfillment of the political agreement components between two candidates as significant in trust building between two electoral teams and attracting their cooperation with the IEC during this process.
EWA also called on the two candidates to respond to people’s concerns over the process and assure timely and successful implementation of the process through speeding up the fulfillment of the political agreement components.
