Afghans celebrate Eid amid prayers for peace

KABUL (Pajhwok): Amid tight security and prayers for peace, the Afghans on Monday offered Eidul Fitr prayers across the country without any major incident of violence taking place.

Last night, the Supreme Court announced that the Saudi Supreme Court had declared Monday as the first day of Eidul Fitr on the basis of evidence.

The Eid prayers were offered in Kabul and provinces in all major mosques and Eid Gahs in a peaceful environment. The worshippers hug and congratulated each other following the prayers.

President Karzai offered the prayers at the mosque figures and military generals were present.

Big congregations took place at the Eid Gah mosque in Kabul and the Pul-i-Kheshti mosque, with prayer leaders highlighting the importance of the day. The worshippers prayed for a lasting peace in the country.

Abdul Qadir, who offered the prayers at the Pul-i-Kheshti mosque, told Pajhwok Afghan News he wished every day passed off in peace like today. He urged the Afghans to stop shedding the blood of each other and instead offer the hand of brotherhood.

Another worshiper, Habib, said Eid was the day when people shared love — the real taste of the occasion. “May Allah bring peace to the country and turn every day into Eid,” he wished.
