KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): The governor on Monday directed security departments to take stern action against elements threatening government officials and tribal elders with death in southeastern Khost province.
Abdul Jabbar Naeemi issued the directives at a weekly security meeting with the officials concerned, a statement issued by his office said.
The governor stressed elements threatening tribal elders and government officials should be eliminated, the statement said.
It quoted the provincial National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief, Col. Abdul Ghafar, as saying that militants had no courage to enter a face-to-face engagement with security forces.
He said after losing the morale to face security forces, militants were now out to spread fear and disturbance among common people.
Khost crime branch chief Col. Guldad Mandozai told the meeting that police had intensified efforts to arrest those fueling instability and terror among the masses.
Haider Khan Mangal, a local resident, praised security institutions for their efforts to maintain peace and stability in the province. He said punishing individuals involved in criminal activities was important for controlling crimes .
