Ghor official detained for planting bombs

FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Police on Friday claimed detaining a government official trying to plant a roadside bomb in the Dolina district of western Ghor province.

Ghor police chief Brig. Gen. Fahim Qaim told a news conference that the detainee, a Hajj and Auqaf Department official, was responsible for recent bombings in the district.

“Our information shows the official was behind planting a roadside bomb that killed the acting district police chief, 2nd Lt. Karim Dad, along with two policemen,” he claimed.

On June 24, the detainee allegedly wounded a former district police head and killed a policeman in a bomb attack. He was also blamed for killing a senior district intelligence officer.

Gen. Qaim accused the official of organising several explosions that killed a number of civilians. He said the detainee had received militant training in neighbouring Pakistan.
