FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least eight militants, including three commanders, have been killed and 10 others wounded during an operation in Juram district of northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said Saturday.
The operation was jointly launched by Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ANP) and public order police in Dahan Khistak area of the Juram district, public relations director for special commando said.
Lt. Hussain Rezaee told Pajhwok Afghan News eight militants, including three commanders, Mullah Qader, Mullah Shakir and Mullah Naqib were killed and 10 others wounded during the ongoing operation launched on Friday.
Police Chief Syed Abdul Qader Sayyad said three ANA solider were also wounded in the offensive but civilians suffered no casualties.
But Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that 16 commandos were killed and seven others wounded in the firefight.
He confirmed only two militants were killed but and a number of weapons and ammunition were seized from Afghan forces.
Noor Aqa Naderi, Juram district chief, said that the aim of the operation was to clean Dahan Khastak of rebels.
He said Juram-Yamgan road had been blocked because of militants’ activities but would be reopened after the operation.
