Projects to benefit Jawzjan, Nimroz residents

SHIBERGHAN/ ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Thousand of residents of northern Jawzjan province would gain access to potable water and many would benefit from a newly-asphalted road in southwestern Nimroz province, officials said on Saturday.

A water supply scheme in the Qashqa Abad village of Aqcha district was inaugurated, district council head, Khair Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Residents previously bought mineral water.

He said about 1,000 families would benefit from the project implemented by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) costing 15 million afghanis.

Mohammad Zarif, a resident of the locality, said: “We used to buy unhygienic water that caused various illnesses but now “we will get clean drinking water close to our homes.”

Officials recalled more than 70 percent of Aqcha residents had no access to clean water earlier.

Separately, a road construction project in Chakhansor district of Nimroz province had also been completed. The 80 metres road was constructed with the financial support extended by the UK government. The road took three months to be completed, with the 7.5 million Afghanistan assistance provided by the UK, district chief Mohammad Fazli said.

He said the road would connect Chakhansoor and Zaranj, the provincial capital, and would facilitate transportation facilities.

Mohammad Hanif, Chakhansoor development council head, said the road was partially damaged in floods and locals faced with hardships while passing through the area.  He said as many as 15,000 residents would benefit from the facility.
