CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): Twenty-three people including three intelligence agents have been detained for illegally carrying weapons in central Parwan province, an official said on Sunday.
The police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Zaman Mamozai, told Pajhwok Afghan News the arrests had been made during a deweaponisation campaign in the province that began six days ago.
He said the three National Directorate of Security personnel, belonging to Logar province, were arrested with two pistols in the Pul-i-Sayad area of Bagram district today. The men have been referred to the Attorney-General’s Office.
Mamozai said the drive would continue until all illegal gunmen were disarmed. The remaining 20 detainees, hailing from different parts of Parwan, have also been referred for prosecution.
A week back, the National Security Council directed the interior ministry and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) to collect weapons from outlaws in Parwan.
