KABUL (Pajhwok): Five gunmen planning to attack the Independence Day ceremony were arrested by police in Kabul on Monday, the spy service said.
The National Directorate of Security (NDS) said the gunmen were arrested with an explosives-laden Corolla car and weapons of different brands.
Identities of the detainees were not disclosed, but an NDS statement said the individuals were members of a terrorist group.
August 19 is the Independence Day of Afghanistan, which will be marked by special ceremonies in Kabul and in a number of provincial capitals and cities.
