HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The governor of western Herat province on Tuesday accused intelligence agencies of neighbouring countries of fuelling unrest and insecurity in the province.

Sayed Fazlullah Wahidi levelled the allegation while addressing a gathering that was arranged to mark the 95th Independence Day in Herat City, the provincial capital.

He said: “If we look at the country’s history, we will see constant foreign involvement in Afghanistan’s affairs, a vicious circle that continues even today.”

However, he promised all possible measures would be taken to strengthen security and let people live in a peaceful environment.

Gen. Taj Mohammad Jahid, the Zafar Corps commander, congratulated the nation on the Independence Day. He pledged security would be beefed up throughout the province.
