KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Minister of Defence Gen. Bismillah Mohammadi on Thursday acknowledged militants were gaining strength and vitiating the security situation in the northern Afghanistan.
On a trip to Kunduz province, Mohammadi said the insurgents had been trying to disrupt security in the northern region but Afghan security forces had the capability of warding off any threat.
He added a clearing operation was underway in different areas of the province. “Militants want to take control of some areas, but I assure the people the enemies of Afghanistan will never succeed in their nefarious designs.”
After the offensive, more security forces would be deployed to Kunduz to prevent a return of militants, he promised, saying the role of people in improving the security situation was vital. “I am proud of Afghan forces defending their country.”
Meanwhile, a public representative in the Wolesi Jirga to fight against Afghan forces.
Expressing her concern over increasing insecurity, she said the issue had been shared with senior officials, who had promised to eliminate the threat without further delay.
