FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): A man has been detained by police for allegedly smuggling two ancient artifacts in western Ghor province, an official said on Saturday.
The man was detained with the historic objects — a falcon and a stone — in the Saghir district, the provincial police chief said.
Brig. Gen Ahmad Fahim Qayem told Pajhwok Afghan News that the falcon was made of metal with some written text and it belonged to pre-Islam era. He said the stone weighing 30 kilograms had Kalima Shahadat written on it.
Many people believed the stone belonged to first years of Islam religion, the police chief said.
According to the provincial Information and Culture, about 100 historic sites exist in Ghor and more work is needed to preserve them.
