SHIBERGHAN /PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Two militants and a mine planter were killed and five others wounded in separate incidents in northern parts of the country, officials said on Tuesday.

Security forces killed two rebels and wounded three others, including a notorious commander, after an overnight attack on a check-post near the Jarqodak gas plant in Jawzjan province.

Police chief, Brig. Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants planned to kill guards of the check-post and then launch a coordinated attack on the gas facility.

Raziq, an employee of the plant, confirmed hearing gunshots and rocket fire that lasted two hours. However, he had no further details.

Elsewhere, one insurgent was killed and two others were wounded when the mine they were planting went-off in Baghlan province, police spokesman Javed Basharat said.
